Polyphonic Ringtones WAP

Polyphonic Ringtones (WAP) combines several different instruments playing simultaneously, unlike the regular ringtones, which emulate music in a single high-pitched tone. A WAP enabled handset is all it takes to download Polyphonic Ringtones through WAP. The service provider activates the SIM card for Data/Fax, which enables you to surf WAP for polyphonic bookmarks. Polyphonic Ringtones are always reached through WAP.

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an application environment that uses a set of communication protocols or wireless gadgets that provides Internet access and telephony services independent of manufacturer, vendor and technology.

Linking the mobile industry with the Internet and corporate intranets, WAP makes an unlimited range of value-added services possible, irrespective of network, bearer and terminal. All the information that you can access from a computer is now accessible to mobile subscribers in a pocket-sized device.

Being a global standard no single company controls WAP. The names behind the WAP Forum in mid 1997 are Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola and Unwired Planet. Initially the intention was to define an industry specification for using wireless networks to develop applications. A set of protocols was denied for application, session, transaction, security and transport layers. This enabled operators, manufacturers and application providers to tackle problems in advanced wireless service differentiation and faster, more flexible services.

Currently over a hundred members represent terminal and infrastructure manufacturers, operators, carriers, service providers, software companies, content providers and mobile companies.
